I got this awesome email from the talented photographer Claire of Rouxby where she mentioned she dug my photos and wanted a 2nd shooter at a certain wedding… that wedding is of Brandon and Christie. So she flew into Denver for an afternoon engagement session where I tagged along slinging so

me film. Now… it was kind of a crazy day… some serious wind was happening… like 80mph wind gusts. The road that I needed to take to meet these folks was closed down and when we all arrived we realized that we were going to be freezing cold with dirt and dust blasting us. We made it quick, there wasn’t much talking or hanging out. It was… get out of the truck and lean into the wind, we should be safe cause no one is wearing these fancy pants.

Along with this quick outdoor session we realized that there was a place close by that we could shoot indoors… well, as soon as we got there and I snapped off a couple shots my wife calls me and is in labor with our 4th little one. Needless to say I asked her over the phone… “So I should probably pack my stuff up and meet you at the hospital?” — it ended up being false labor:)

This was one of those fairly last minute shoots as we were racing against the clock,  Jason and Jolene were both set to move to the great city of L.A. within a couple weeks so our window of opportunity landed on the coldest day of Colorado’s 2011-12 winter. I picked them up about 9am and it was 11 degrees and when we finished our “lets hurry up and shoot” shoot the temp only rose a couple degrees. They were champs, I felt self-concious and kinda bad that I was putting them through this madness haha.

By far, these are two of the finest people I’ve ever met. That’s a strong statement seeing I only spent a wee bit of time with them but you’ve probably met people like these… you just walk away inspired. They have an energy and authenticity about them that is rare these days. And they were just so damn cute together, they’re love overflows. And since this shoot they’ve gotten engaged! So happy for them!

Well, here are some shots for yah. Some of the guys at ELC Mens were kind enough to donate some items for the day, check’em out. I was pretty worried that because of the cold my film would get a little gnarly but it held up besides some weird color shifts I had to wrestle with… and yay for spring bein here now, yah?

Some amazing friends of mine got engaged to be married. So unbelievably happy for them!

Here are some digital frames from our time together.

My dad is a carpenter. I grew up noticing how tough his hands looked. I could always smell the sawdust on his clothes. He usually had a beard and sometimes a mullet. His boots were always muddy and his truck smelled like coffee and sweat. Oh, and he knew Karate hence my dad being tougher than your dad.

I’ve tried my hand at carpentry, while in high school I spent three months helping my dad and grandfather build my uncles house back in Charlton Massachusetts. I never felt more like one of the guys as then. That was a great time. Oh and when me and Tess had Olive, our first little kiddo…. We needed to make some extra money so I worked construction for a summer. It was good. It was tough.

There is a part of me that wants to rip some wood on a table saw and hammer some nails and it peaks its head out every once in a while. More so lately. Its nostalgic for me to smell saw dust. I’ve been mounting my prints on birch as of late and its been really fun and it’s a nice change from normal framing of photos. I get my prints done through Wallblank. Archival inks on heavy duty archival paper. Then using some acid free sealant I seal off the sanded birch and use an acid free adhesive to get the print to stick. Drill a small hole in the back and you’ve got a mounted photo hanging flush on the wall. Sliiiiick.

Sunset Glow

Aimee and Casey. Amazing people who have such a fun love for each other. Aimee is an artsist with some awesomely long dreads… check out her ceramics here. Casey, he’s got a killer beard that would make any man envy. Their love runs deep and is connected by a very true, humble, and strong love for God, their families, and their friends. With 30 or so of their friends and family they rented out a lodge up near Breckenridge Colorado for a few days. Amazing setting to say the least. Leading up to the wedding they made memories by way of foosball, snowshoeing and laughter over coffee while staying comfy in their pajamas (by the fire!) Shoot what a perfect setting for quality family time and a close intimate wedding!

So anyways…Here is a little preview to this little wedding I shot last weekend! Some polaroids for you to check out as I finish up sorting through the many many other shots from the day.

Last of the hundred posts from this shoot. So these fine kids never really got married. They’re friends not lovers. Good actors though, eh? Also I think I mentioned it on another post but I can’t tell you how cold this actually was.  And I was walking around in knee deep snow in my TOMS. No good. Noooo good. I was literally scared that I’d loose my toes.

Let me tell you this… what I learned most from this shoot… just freakin do it! If you are an artist especially… if you have an idea, do it right away because chances are you’re gonna see someone else do that thing that you wanted to do and then you’ll feel bummed out and un-inspired to keep it going. A little while back I got to shoot my first couple. Erik and Brianne are freakin awesome! Good looking folks who love the heck out of each other. Its awesome to see… I also just shot their wedding yesterday. Sunday May 30th. Was my first wedding and was an eye opening experience for sure. Learned a lot and destroyed my feet while wearing my awesome TOMS. The shoes were great for the first 5 hours or so but after that, not so much:) Anyways, here are some varied shots from the engagement. I’ll have some killer wedding and FotoLounge shots up soon!
