Norlund Hatchet Refurbished ¬

Another hands on project of mine came to near completion yesterday, got another round of polishing. This here is a Norlund Hudson Bay Hatchet that I came upon. Its head had a good 30 years of rust and sat loose in its helve. I started with sanding the head from 100 grit down to 400 grit sand paper and finished off the edge with 600 grit making it sharper than the average knife. Then I moved on to a new handle out of hickory, based the design and feel off the old handle I added a twist of Walnut inlay on both sides of the handle along with painting a simple fluorescent orange stripe. Finished it off with a few coats of polyurethane for extra durability when the rain falls.

It is purdy and I’m glad I finally got around to this as its been on my list for a couple years. I’m sure I’ll be making more as I already know of some changes I’d like to impart.

Thanks so much for checking this out and all the love on Instagram, its good to know that the artist in all of us has a real impact on the lives around us… even when resistance attempts to convince us otherwise… keep creating and let the close relationships in your life be your inspiration.

Shane Kalai of Artists Inspiring Action ¬

Back in November I crossed paths with a certain dude. His name is Shane Kalai and he is the heart behind Artists Inspiring Action. Shane was in town from Portland, OR for the Resound Conference. He had been in the Boulder area a couple months prior and had met up with my dear friend Luke. He made quite the impression with Luke who had then spoken to me about him and so I was stoked to be able to meet the guy as he was on my heart for a while. You ever get that feeling about someone… it’s a vague feeling but in a sense you somehow know a certain person will have more of an impact then a smile and handshake? A more permanent roll in your life… but you’re not quite sure how or what? I love those moments because I can’t help but be expectant for something amazing.

Well this dude is on a journey and it’s a powerful one, he made a mark in my life that I will always look back on and I hope our paths cross again… well I know they will and I look forward to that.

With a last minute meet up before heading to the airport, we grabbed some coffee and found a field of geese.

Luca Venter & Dustin Roderick

Ever since moving on from my 8-5 job I’ve had much more time to meet up with folks. Its been real nice, I haven’t met this many new people since college and I realize that its something that I’ve missed. Dustin and I had come across each other through Instagram  by way of Luca. Knowing that Dustin was a manager of Happy Coffee in Denver…  and how much I love good coffee… we decided to meet up where he spends most of his time. Not sure if he was stoked on that, but I was;)Couldn’t wait to give their espresso a tasting and it was surely fantastic. One of the best cups in Colorado for sure.

Half way into sharing our stories Luca walked in and now we had three photographers and a nice sunny day to take our cameras for a walk. And thats what we did.
